Condolences to Katowice Region
|
|

Ambassador
Victor Ashe |
Again, I want to convey my deepest condolences to all
those who may have suffered in the tragic roof collapse
in Chorzów on January 28th. We in the United States
experienced several tragedies in 2005 and I am thankful
for the generous support we received from Poland’s
people. I would also like to draw your attention to
President Bush’s condolence letter to President
Kaczynski and the Polish people. |
|
I have included a hyperlink at the bottom of this
message to my op-ed that Rzeczpospolita recently
published. I wanted to draw the Polish public’s
attention to the successful conclusion of the strategic
dialogue that took place here in Warsaw on January 25th.
You will find a short piece on that event below. It
provided me with a good opportunity to remind Poles of
the significant contributions the USG is making to the
U.S./Polish alliance and what binds us together as
allies. Lastly I want to highlight the visit of Bill Gates to
Warsaw as noted below. His visit demonstrates what I
feel is the tremendous potential for investment and
trade in the technology sector here in Poland by U.S.
firms. Leveraging the technological advances in
aeronautics and engineering that Poland is gaining
through the Lockheed Martin offset program, among
others, could be a valuable tool in attracting future
investments and hence advances in the technology sector.
I hope you all are staying warm during this coldest of
Warsaw winters in 20 years. As always, to keep up to
date with what is going on at our mission please visit

|
Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried and Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy Peter Flory were in Warsaw January 25th to engage their Polish counterparts in the continuing strategic dialogue between the United States and Poland. The U.S.-Polish Strategic Dialogue is a concept that former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage proposed in March, 2004, along the lines of similar dialogues with other major allies, such as the U.K., Japan and Australia.
