June

 Ambassador Victor Ashe

This past month has been very busy with the Pope's visit to Poland. Joan and I were honored to attend mass with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI while he was in Warsaw recently. His trip to Poland is a testament to the impact the late Pope John Paul II had on him, the Vatican, and the world.
I have received many queries from Poles about the recent Visa Waiver  amendment to the Senate immigration bill and it has been heavily covered in the Polish media.  Needless to say, there is a long way to go before Senate and House versions of the Bill are reconciled and passed, as it is just one part of the larger immigration bill. We will follow this process closely.

Reflecting the close relations between the two countries, the next round of Strategic Dialog Talks between Poland and the U.S. will take place in Washington, DC on June 15. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also will meet with the new Polish Foreign Minister Anna Fotyga in Washington, DC on June 19.
Visitors in June include Dr. Marilyn Kallet and Rabbi Beth Schwartz of Knoxville's Temple Beth El, Undersecretary for Arms Control Robert Joseph, the Orlando Magic cheerleaders, the Tom Shepard Band, and Miles Griffith performing at our “America Days” celebration in Chełm.  We will also celebrate 4th of July in Chełm and Opole this year.
I deeply deplore the recent attack on Poland’s Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich and I am heartened that he was not seriously injured and by the seriousness that the Polish government is treating this incident. To read more please go to Ambassador's statement on the website.
Please keep in touch with our activities through our website at warsaw.usembassy.gov Let us know if you have any ideas about how we could more effectively communicate all of the hard work we are doing to maintain the strong U.S./Polish relationship.
