Greetings! I hope you enjoyed the beautiful
Polish summer we experienced and are ready for the
changing of the leaves. I was told at a reception I held
not long ago for the National Park Directors of Poland
that Bieszczady National Park along the Ukrainian and
Slovak borders in the south-east is one of the best
places to observe this phenomenon in Poland. Here at the
Embassy we are starting the fall season off with a bang
as a whole lot is happening in September.

Ambassador Victor Ashe |
|
The Polish Prime Minister is of course going to
Washington this month and I’ll be along to assist him
and his Washington counterparts with their discussions.
The Polish President will be in New York as well and
will be the first Polish head of State to address the
U.N. General Assembly on its opening day. We also have a
trade delegation arriving September 10th from Tennessee
that is focused on health care. There will be an
impressive number of CEOs on this trip including
representatives of HCA, the world’s largest hospital
corporation. The esteemed author, John Irving, will be
paying us a visit this month as well.
I will attend the September 15 rollout of Poland’s first
F-16 aircraft in Ft. Worth, Texas. Along those lines
there will be a NATO Military Committee tour in Warsaw
and Krakow from September 8-10. Poland and the U.S.
share many security interests, including NATO, and many
of our discussions this month will focus on those
interests.
The Krynica Economic
Forum is taking place September 6-9 in
Krynica, Poland and is one of the most prestigious
Economic gatherings in all of Europe. We are sponsoring
Professor Stephen Lacy of Michigan State University who
will speak to attendees about some of the trends in
media in the U.S. and the impact that could have for
investors.
We received numerous requests from around Poland to
attend events commemorating the victims of the 9/11
terrorist attacks. I, along with my colleagues, will be
representing the United States at a number of these
events. I draw your attention to the piece below on
President Bush’s letter to the attendees of one very
special commemoration in Kielce, Poland, where they will
be unveiling a monument in honor of the victims of
terrorism.
I just held a reception in honor of the Polish judiciary
at the residence the other night. Other receptions we
will be hosting this month include ones to honor the
Polish scientific community, the Polish agricultural
community, the 10th anniversary of the Embassy's Legal
Attaché (FBI) office, the opening of our first Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) office here in Warsaw,
and perhaps most significantly a reception honoring some
of Poland's World War II veterans.
This is just a fraction of the activity we are engaged
in this month. For a full read out please visit our
