The North Atlantic Council Summit gets under way Thursday, April 3, 2008, in Bucharest. White House photo by Chris Greenberg Missile Defense a Key Topic at NATO Summit

At the NATO summit in Bucharest 4/3, alliance members expressed support for a missile defense system in Europe, issuing the Bucharest Summit Declaration. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice termed it "a breakthrough document on missile defense for the alliance." In the Declaration, alliance members also urge Russia to drop its opposition to missile defense plans (for full text of Declaration, click HERE).  (more)

Following is the text of a joint statement of the United States and the Czech Republic on a missile defense agreement:
The United States and the Czech Republic are pleased to announce the completion of negotiations on a missile defense agreement. We plan to sign the agreement in the near future. (more)
Participants in missile defense seminar Ballistic Missile Defense Seminar Held in Warsaw 
Numerous U.S. and Polish companies and research centers took part in a Ballistic Missile Defense seminar held in Warsaw from March 26-27. The seminar was sponsored by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and supported by the U.S. Embassy and the Polish Ministry of National Defense. (more)

Robert Bell speaks on missile defense Robert Bell Speaks On Missile Defense in Warsaw
On March 3-4, 2008, Robert Bell visited Warsaw to speak on missile defense as part of the U.S. Embassy's missile defense outreach program. Bell, who was a Special Assistant to President Clinton for National Security Affairs, the National Security Council Senior Director for Defense Policy and Arms Control, and NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Defense, is one of the most knowledgeable experts on this issue.
